Philosophy summary

The Bernard de Launoit Foundation aims to support the projects of young artists or adventurers in four categories: visual arts, music, cinema, and mountain adventure. Reflecting Bernard de Launoit’s passions, the Foundation will award prizes that emphasize the values of self-surpassing, ambition, creativity, and commitment. The Foundation will always favor bold, original, and creative projects imagined by young people. These projects can be in progress, planned, or already completed. The Foundation's goal is to encourage excellence and innovation in each field covered by the Bernard de Launoit Prize, offering winners a platform to showcase their work and contribute to the development of their respective fields.

Each prize awarded amounts to €25,000.

General Regulations for the Awards

We draw the attention of candidates to the fact that, in addition to the general rules applicable to all categories, it is also necessary to take into account rules specific to each category (see below).

Candidates must submit a file that includes:

Project description (see general rules and specific rules for each category)

Biography/CV of the main participants in the project

Full project budget

Precise use of the prize funds in the project: Priority will be given to projects that need the Foundation's support to materialize, but the Foundation may also choose to be the first to believe in the presented projects and offer initial support.

Selection process

Each award category is overseen by a specific committee composed of prominent figures in the respective sectors, chosen either as active members of the sector or for their credibility ensured by a significant experience in it. To ensure effective coordination of the selection process, at least one administrator per committee is appointed to supervise the committee's activities. Their mission is to ensure transparency and objectivity in the process while ensuring that the selection criteria are met. Deliberations are held in private, but committees may request to meet with candidates or contact references listed in the application. Decisions are made by majority vote of the members present or represented. The eligible categories for a 2025 award are Cinema and Mountain Adventure. The call for applications is open from June 15, 2024, to January 15, 2024. A decision on the eligibility of submitted applications will be announced on February 1, 2025 (incomplete files will be discarded). Finalists for each category will be announced on March 1, 2025, and winners will be announced during the awards ceremony on March 23, 2025.

Application files must be submitted by January 15 either by email to info@fondationbdl.com or by mail to: Fondation Bernard de Launoit, Avenue Albert 130, 1190 Brussels, Belgium.
